Lutheran Services Carolinas (LSC) based in Raleigh has a large refugee resettlement program. They are a small operation with limited storage facilities, and as a result, put out weekly requests for donations. This week the organization is under particular strain after scrambling to address the refugee ban and has the following requests.

Opportunity #1

In response to recent events, LSC is organizing an activity to “show some love” to the many refugees in our community who call our country their new home. LSC has put together care packages with the words “WE WELCOME YOU” on the box. They need 30-40 volunteers willing to deliver these packages to refugee families and to let them know that they are welcome here.

-Friday, February 10
-Drop in anytime between 11am-12:30pm
-The package can be delivered/dropped off at the family’s home anytime over the next week

-Pick up a package with designated family name and address
-Please see attached list for items we are still collecting for the care packages.

-4020 Wake Forrest Rd.
-LSC parking lot (in the very back- look for us next to a large grey trailer)

PLEASE NOTE: If you would like to donate any of these items listed below, please bring them with you next Friday at the pick-up (we are not able to take anything that is not on this list, but feel free to personally deliver any items not on the list).

Opportunity #2

Below is a “needs list” that describes the items LS is hoping to collect for the refugee families.

  • Laundry and dish detergent
  • Toilet paper
  • Diapers
  • Shampoo
  • Soap
  • Carseats
  • Children’s shoes and clothing
  • Rice cookers and tea kettles
  • Basmati or jasmine rice
  • Cooking Oil
  • Sheets and blankets
  • Adult bikes

PLEASE NOTE: LS is asking for those who are willing to donate goods directly to the families. It’s an opportunity to meet the people that your donation will be helping. This is not mandatory, but if you are interested, please let them know.

TIMING IS SHORT. The welcome baskets will be distributed this Friday.
