Today we got a bit of good news out of the Supreme Court. The Court declined to hear the NC GOP’s appeal of the 4th Circuit court’s ruling on North Carolina’s Voter ID law. This was the ruling that said the NC GOP used surgical precision to target African American voters. The good news is Voter ID is dead, for now. That doesn’t mean there is time to rest. We all know the NC GOP will come up with an even uglier, dirtier version of the law.

We’ve said this again and again, but these types of bad laws are why it’s so important to break the GOP super majority in the 2018 election. Bad laws are being written and passed as well as costing the state millions of dollars in lawsuits. So far, the courts are stamping down the worst of them, but can’t we all agree there is a better way to spend that money?

Jeff Jackson shared a few stories with his followers that show how out of control this really is. Give ’em a read and share with your Republican friends. Most reasonable people should be horrified by the abuse of power taking place in the NCGA – especially the last article.

And it’s not just here in NC. The President announced a new commission on election integrity, which the twittersphere appropriately said is more likely to be a “how to” guide for voter fraud and suppression. What can you do? Jen Hofmann had an idea:

Action: Oppose the new, federal Advisory Commission on Election Integrity.

Read: This recent article and background on Kris Kobach’s past efforts to suppress voters in Kansas.

Script: Hi. I’m a constituent from _ZIP_ and am calling to express my concern about Trump’s new election integrity commission. Considering the lack of support for claims of widespread voter fraud, this panel is a huge waste of taxpayer money. What is _NAME_ doing to oppose this panel?

Finally, we haven’t forgotten about the headlines related to the ongoing Russian investigations. Be sure to put the June 3, March for Truth, on your calendar. The nationwide march is being driven by Indivisible, but Indivisibles NC is also coordinating marches through out North Carolina. The purpose of #MarchForTruth is to raise our voices and let our elected leaders know that Americans want answers. The legitimacy of our democracy is more important than the interests of any party, or any President. Let’s rise together to call for a fair and impartial investigation into the Trump administration’s ties to Russia and demand the pursuit of truth.
