We as a society are hurting; we hurt for our children, we hurt for those without a voice, we hurt for a world that is broken and unable to communicate effectively. It is for this reason a coalition of community churches and organizations is coming together to host a summit on gun safety, balancing perspectives and responsible solutions as we hear from community voices including a teacher, a student, a gun violence victim and a gun rights advocate.
This is intended to be a FIRST STEP in building community conversations that will extend beyond a single night…conversations that are difficult but must happen, in community. This is not a political rally, an anti-gun rally, or an opportunity to bring anger and hatred against one another. This IS an opportunity to hear from our community, and learn information regarding North Carolina law; where we’ve come from, where we are, and where we are looking to go.
The evening will be a chance to gather together and be witness to stories and engage in a Question & Answer session with a panel of state and community leaders to learn more about the possibilities ahead.
Senator Floyd McKissick, Jr.
House Minority Leader Darren Jackson
Wake Co. Board of Commissioners Chair Jessica Holmes
NC Council of Churches Exec. Director Jennifer Copeland
Event Moderator: Rick Glazier, Executive Director, NC Justice Center
We extend this invitation to all elected officials in North Carolina as well as any community members who wish to attend.
Our goal is to begin to equip those who are feeling called to discuss gun violence but are unsure how to get started. This is an opportunity for our community to be proactive in building awareness together.
Please RSVP by May 13th. We hope to see you there!
