Alexandra F. Sirota ,Director NC Budget & Tax Center at NC Justice, will present an information session on the NC State Budget.
Every North Carolinian wants to live in a thriving community. We all want well-staffed public schools for our children to learn the skills they’ll need in adulthood. We all want safe, easy-to-navigate streets so we can get where we need to be. And we all want strong local businesses that support a robust local economy. These are all elements of a thriving community. These are all values that we share.
So how do we as a state demonstrate our values? How do we make sure our values translate into our lived experiences?
The state budget. Our state budget represents our values in practice. This presentation will explain how the budget sets priorities for our communities and impacts our quality of life. The conversation will talk about ways that you can make sure your community’s needs are reflected in the state budget.

North Carolina is facing unprecedented challenges as our state continues to rebuild from the Great Recession. Failure to map out a pathway that will continue to ensure the education of our children, the health of our families and elders and the well-being and safety of our neighborhoods and communities is not an option. To inform North Carolinians, the Budget and Tax Center analyzes pressing budget, tax and economic decisions facing the state and local communities with an eye to ensuring that economic opportunity is expanded for all.
The NC Justice Budget and Tax Center conducts non-partisan analysis of state budget and tax policy and monitors economic conditions in the state. We produce timely and accessible research that contributes to policy discussions and public debate, with the goal of building a broader understanding of the role of policy in supporting economic opportunity for all.
