We are six months past Election Day 2016 and it has been a roller coaster of a ride. The new administration is turning out to be as wild and unpredictable as many of us feared, but the one bright spot has been the surge of progressive civic engagement across the country.
Stronger NC is putting out a call for volunteers. The resistance can’t live on adrenaline alone, so we’d love to have some more volunteers to help us out on the following committees:
The Events Committee focuses on creating and planning events, meetings, meetups, etc. that the group will be hosting or involved with, including acquiring spaces, permits, speakers, facilities, and equipment. Also shares information and ideas with the Communications Committee on local events we should promote, co-sponsor or attend. Creates a database of potential resources that can be called upon for event support. Works closely with the Inclusion committee on promoting events hosted by local groups in need of exposure and support.
The Government Education Committee is focused on informing the Stronger NC community about our changing government (at both state and national levels) and offering ways we can get involved. We just launched “This Is What Democracy Looks Like,” a monthly Facebook Live series that offers an in-depth conversation about the issues that matter most. In the coming months we’re looking to expand so we can provide even more creative and thought provoking materials to ensure that Stronger NC members are always in the know. If you want to get involved but aren’t sure how, don’t worry – we can find the right role for you!
The Stronger NC Legal Committee is looking for lawyers who specialize in the following areas of law: health law, immigration, criminal sentencing (re: Sessions new drug policy) and LGTBQ law. Besides being a voice of reason to guide the team on the legal implications for these topics, we are also looking for people who can help provide guidance for toolkits and other communications projects. If you have expertise in any of these areas and have a few hours to donate each month, please let us know.
Our Communications Committee is a busy team putting out content on this website and social media. We would love to get a few more writers and graphic artists on board to help with the day to day content on the site. If you are interested in writing blog posts or creating memes/postcards/infographics/etc, please let us know. We’d love to have your help!
If you are interested in participating in any of these committees, please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please put the committee you’d like to volunteer with in the subject and give us a brief description of what you are interested in doing or how you can help. Thanks!
