Governor Cooper is moving to expand Medicaid so that 500,000 low-income North Carolinians could gain access to healthcare under the Affordable Care Act. This effort is aimed at helping working class citizens who previously made too much money for Medicaid, but not enough for Obamacare subsidies, to get health insurance coverage at the expense of the federal government.
After the North Carolina GOP leaders in the General Assembly sued to block federal regulators from granting the expansion, a judge issued an injunction to halt Cooper’s request. On Monday, January 16, Cooper himself filed a court motion asking a judge to lift that injunction in order to allow his Medicaid expansion plans to move forward before President Obama leaves office.
As usual, nothing is easy in North Carolina politics.
Call Governor Cooper’s office at 919-814-2050 to tell him you support his efforts in expanding Medicaid for 500,000 more North Carolinians. Calls matter. Especially on this issue as Senator Phil Berger is urging Republicans to do the same. Let’s make our voices louder than theirs!
