We are going to back to healthcare this week, as the Cassidy-Graham Bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act was just announced late last week.

NC Policy Watch has pulled together a great summary of the numbers behind the bill. It’s a must read article. A few points we think are pertinent:

  • 12—number of days until the September 30 deadline to pass ACA repeal and replace legislation on a simple-majority vote under the Senate procedure known as reconciliation
  • 239 billion—amount in dollars that the Cassidy-Graham plan would cut projected federal spending for Medicaid expansion and marketplace subsidies under current law between 2020 and 2026
  • 299 billion— amount in dollars that Cassidy-Graham plan would cut projected federal spending on health care coverage in the year 2027 alone

Indivisible has once again pulled together a great set of background info, scripts and other information you need in order to call your Senators so we can #KillTheBill. https://www.trumpcareten.org/

Sample call script for Senators Burr (202) 224-3154 and Tillis (202) 224-6342

Hi, my name is {{ user.name }} and I’m a constituent from {{ user.city }}, {{ user.state }}. I want Senator Burr/Tillis to oppose Graham-Cassidy. The bill is just like other TrumpCare bills in that it destroys Medicaid as we know it which hurts children with disabilities, seniors, and even victims of natural disasters like Harvey and Irma. It also takes away funding to help people afford health insurance through the marketplace.

If Senator Burr/Tillis wants to help Americans, then supporting the bipartisan, transparent process that Senators Alexander and Murray are leading through regular order would be a better option than supporting the Graham-Cassidy bill. I expect Senator Burr/Tillis to respect regular order and reject the Graham-Cassidy bill if it comes to a vote.
